Procedure for
Apostille Attestation: Any person who is planning to go abroad is
required to get their personal, professional, educational or commercial documents
apostilled.
Applicants are required to visit
e-Sanad website – E-Sanad is the online service for verification and
attestation of personal, professional, educational or commercial documents of Indian
citizens introduced by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India.
Applicants are then required to upload their personal, professional, educational or
commercial documents and pay the standard fee set by the e-service provider.
Personal, professional, educational or commercial documents are then digitally
verified by the Department of Internal Affairs (DIA) and General Administration
Department (GAD), Government of India (GOI).
MEA
(Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India) then verify
the digitally signed /pre-approved documents. Lastly attested documents with
Apostille stickers are dispatched to the applicant.
Kindly note: As the
Ministry of
External Affairs (MEA) Government of India is not accepting
personal, professional, educational or documents directly from the
applicant/individual, all personal, professional, educational or documents for the
purpose of
Attestation/ Apostille by Ministry of External Affairs
(MEA) Government of India are to be submitted and collected
from authorised agencies.
Documents that cannot be
attested under e-Sanad
Authentication of Documents: Applicants have to get their documents
authenticated from the State Regional Authentication Centre. The personal
Papers/documents can be attested by the Home / General Administration Department of
respective State / Union Territory. The educational degrees/certificates can be
attested by the education department of the issuing state / union territory. The
attestation of the commercial documents can be done by the Chamber of Commerce of
the respective state, registered with the Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT).
Submission of Documents with MEA Authorized Attestation Centre
Applicants have to visit the MEA authorized attestation agency that is
near to his / her place of residence. Authenticated documents needs to be submitted
with MEA authorized agency to the Branch having territorial jurisdiction
Receipt of Apostilled / Attested documents from MAE authorized agency
MEA authorized document attestation agency return back you the duly legalized.
What is the Apostille
Attestation Fee in India?
The Ministry of External Affairs,
(MEA) Government of India levied a fee of Rs. 50 for Apostille of each
personal, professional, educational document. However, as the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Government
of India is not accepting documents directly from the applicant/individual, all
personal, professional, educational documents for the purpose of Apostille by
Ministry of External Affairs
(MEA) Government of India are to be submitted and collected from the

online e-Sanad services in India. In case your document is not in the digital
repository and cannot be recognized by e-Sanad website, It is mandatory for the

Authentication Centres (RACs) to upload their Personal, professional,
